IMMIGRATION CASE STUDY

An elderly couple came to our immigration drop in for advice and support around the EU settlement scheme. The husband was Italian and had secured Indefinite Leave to Remain before the UK joined the EU back in the 1960s, but he couldn’t find proof of this. He wasn’t sure if he needed to secure settled status through the EU Settlement scheme or not and he had no idea how to do it if he did.

We advised that an application to the settlement scheme although not strictly necessary was best to do, as it was free and would mean there could be no argument about his status for things like pension and healthcare. We then helped them to pull together the evidence needed to support an application through the EU settlement scheme and made it on line for him. 

The husband now has his settled status and their future in the UK is now secure.
