THE PROBLEM

The client was of South Asian descent and approached us about racist incidents that had been ongoing in his local gym. This ranged from racist graffiti to nicknaming him racist names and excluding him from team events. He made complaints to the management, but didn’t feel he was listened to. The matter reached a head when his membership was suspended by the club.

WHAT WE DID

We advised the client about his rights under the Equality Act 2010 and wrote a letter before action. As the matter could not be resolved at that stage an application was made to the County Court for race discrimination.

THE RESULTS

We successfully negotiated £15,000 in damages from the Respondent in recognition of the discrimination he had faced.
